About PTE Academic Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) is a new, international, computer and paper based academic English language test. The test accurately measures the listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills of test takers who are non-native speakers of English. PTE demonstrates Candidate’s level of academic English proficiency. PTE Academic delivers a real-life measure of test takers’ language ability to universities, higher education institutions, government departments and organizations requiring academic English. PTE Academic is endorsed by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC)®. PTE is divided into two parts Written Part and Spoken Part. The written paper is marked by external examiners in the UK, whereas the spoken test is assessed by trained local examiners and is sent to the UK for moderation. All levels of PTE General are recognized globally and are accepted by universities, employers and national education authorities in many countries as evidence of a required standard of English. Test Format PTE General integrates all four skills (Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing) and focuses on assessing the ability of communicating in English, rather than test taking skills. Test timings: PTE Academic is 3 hours long and is split into timed parts. There are 20 different types of task. Some tasks will test integrated skills (e.g. reading AND speaking). PTE General consists of two parts: a written paper and a spoken test. The written paper tests listening, reading comprehension and writing skills. The test is structured in the following way depending on the six different levels.
